Description
This is an antique Japanese mid Taisho Era (c.1920)tetsubin
(iron tea pot).
It is made of cast iron and has a raised design of bamboo, plum blossom, and pine (shochikubai - see pictures 7 & 8)
.
It is made of very thick iron to hold the heat longer. There is a signature of the artist on the lid,
Tatsufimi Takashi
(see picture 6). This pot weighs 4 lbs 2 oz.
It measures about 6 1/2" (16.5 cm) in diameter not including the handle or spout by 5 1/2" tall (14 cm) and 9 1/2" tall with the handle (24 cm) and holds about a liter of liquid.
Having been in storage for most of the past 100 years and seldom used, with exception of missing top on the lid (see picture 9), it remains in
