Description
This is an antique Japanese bronze O-Rin a type ofsh
rine
bell from the late Taisho Era (c. 1925). This type of bell was used in a butsudan (Buddhist shrine)
when
chanting
sutra.
It has either a high toned chirping sound or a long lasting resounding sound depending how it is struck with a
wooden striker (not included). It has a nice aged bonze patina from over a century of loving use.
It measures 3 3/4
" at its widest diameter by 1 1/2" tall including three small feet (9.5 x 4 cm).
Having been used lovingly, along with an aged patina and some minor signs of past use, this bell remains in
very good
condition.
There is a hole on the side (see pictures 5 & 6) either for hanging or from a loss in the casing which does not interfere with its use and sound.
