This  BIOMAX is the genuine AquaClear/Fluval, for your 70/300 filter.  (actually you can use this product in ANY aquarium!) It preserves beneficial bacteria with CycleGuard© to keep your tank a stress free home for your aquatic friends.
This biomax is new and improved!  The directions say to replace every 3 months and in between, rinse monthly with warm aquarium water in a bucket to keep the bacteria alive and heathy. If tank water is really bad, use dechlorinated water of similar temperature in a bucket to rinse out excess waste.
NOTE:  Only replace Biomax, carbon OR the sponge one at a time, never all at once.  Why?  There is beneficial bacteria (especially in the Biomax and sponge), that handles the waste of the tank's inhabitance, so you don't want to harm the tank by getting rid of a bunch at once.
That would be, kind of like taking 4 litter boxes out of a house that had 5 litter boxes with 10 cats!  That house would become quite gross and dangerous to live in very quickly!  I hope you found some humor in that!  :)
