    Description

This is a vintage Japanese paper weight that was used to hold the paper flat while the writer used his or her paint brush or calligraphy tool.  Buchin or paper weight is made out of brass and was given as an award to for "perfect book". This was probably given out in high school or university.
The paper weight measures 2.5" in diameter and weighs 4.4 ounces or approximately 125 grams. There is not a date (that I can find) to tell when this was actually given out, but by the box design and the medal design it's likely post war. On the outer ring of the paper weight are birds flying and deer leaping. The inner ring has birds standing.  Please look at the photos closely because the photos are of the actual item you are buying.
