  • Condition: overall the basket is very good condition. But take below details into consideration: On the lid , as well as on the body of the basket, there are a few spots the bamboo wicker is broken; The wood on the bottom suffered some insect damage at one point, with some holes . The wood feels solid except one or two soft spots. Some leftover mark of white putty on the interior bottom.

    Description:
    One old Japanese bamboo basket with handle and removable lid, and two braided ropes to secure the lid in place. It is a finely crafted piece. I am not sure about its original function(though I can tell it is for carrying something, but I suspect it was made for some kind of specific purpose) , nor age. Judging from the look and feel of the basket, I'd think it came from the early part of 20th century. Signed on the bottom, see picture. I guess what impressed in the middle is address and the two red chops are the maker's name.
