Boyd's was one of the first coffee roasters in the U.S. to introduce USDA Certified Organic coffee and Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees. This desire to roast a great coffee that is also good for the environment was a driving force behind many of the Boyd's coffee blends. Boyd's coffee is roasted using Arabica coffee beans. Our Roastmasters blend multiple types of coffee beans to create the distinctive Boyd's blends available today. In-house Q-Graders conduct frequent cuppings to assess each type of coffee bean used and the roasted blend. This helps us maintain our desired taste, aroma and body of each blend despite differences in climate or harvest season for each bean variety. Our experienced Roastmasters ensure our coffee is roasted to the highest quality and food safety requirements. Roasted beans are ground and immediately packaged to preserve freshness. A single pod that works in most single-cup brewers and is 100% compostable When we decided to make single coffee pods, we knew that we needed to do it in a way that would allow our customers to brew a single cup of coffee in a sustainable manner, without the waste of most single-serve pods. So, we developed our compostable pods - made with materials certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) to disintegrate within weeks at municial or industrial composting facilities. The soft filter pouch allows better water saturation of the coffee Being compostable wasn't enough for us. We also wanted to make sure our single pods brewed the most aromatic and flavorful cup of coffee possible. So, you'll notice that the bottom of our pods is not made of plastic. Instead we used a soft filter pouch. This pouch design allows all of the coffee to be saturated with water - delivering the full aroma and flavor of each blend. Our pods are compostable - from top to bottom How are Boyd's pods completely compostable? We're glad you asked. The lid is made from paper that disintegrates when composted. The ring holding the coffee pouch in place is made from coffee chaff, which is usually a waste by-product of coffee roasting.
