Description
This is an antique Japanese mid Meiji Era (c. 1900) hand carved bone stamp known as ani
nkan
.
In Japan and China one does not sign, but rather stamp ones name with a chop or inkan like this one. This inkan belonged to an
Inagaki
(稲垣) family and there is a calligraphy on the side (see pictures).
This stamp is made of bone e and measures 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" tall (1 x 3.8 cm). With exception of ink stains and minor signs of past use, it remains in
very fine condition
